Schloss Westerhaus

Schloss Westerhaus is a castle and wine estate in Ingelheim am Rhein situated on limestone hills. The property includes a grand mansion with several outbuildings, terraced gardens, and vineyards that extend across the surrounding landscape.

The estate was first documented in 1408 and belonged to the Counts of Bolanden and Ingelheim for over 600 years. During the French Revolutionary Wars the area was taken over, and the property later passed to a family that has operated it as a wine estate ever since.

The estate remains tied to wine production and is run by a family that has managed it for many generations. You can see this tradition throughout - in the vineyards surrounding the buildings and in how visitors move through the property.

You can reach the main buildings by following the driveway through the vineyards, where visitor parking is available. Tours and tastings take place in the cellar vaults, so bring appropriate shoes and expect cooler temperatures underground.

The wine cellars are carved directly into the mountain and create a natural microclimate with stable temperatures. These underground chambers preserve wines over decades in ideal conditions.
