Schloss Wolmirstedt

Schloss Wolmirstedt is a castle standing on elevated ground with a Renaissance entrance portal, extensive cellars, and architectural elements from different periods. The structure brings together features built over several centuries.

The fortress was first documented in 1009 as an imperial stronghold and served as an important defense in the region. In the 15th century, Archbishop Ernst II of Wettin transformed it into a residential château through major rebuilding work.

The chapel shows how important faith was to those who lived and worked here over the centuries. Visitors can see the brick walls that tell the story of the building's religious purpose.

Today the former outbuildings house different functions that give insight into daily life at the site. The old stables and farm buildings can be visited during a tour to understand how such a complex once operated.

A granary built from quarry stones in the 1800s now houses a museum telling the story of the surrounding area. This later addition preserves objects and information that show how the region changed over time.
