Schloss Wolmirstedt, Medieval castle in Wolmirstedt, Germany
The stone fortress stands on elevated ground, featuring a Renaissance entrance portal, extensive cellars, and architectural elements from different periods spanning centuries.
First documented in 1009 as an imperial castle, the structure underwent major transformations in 1480 when Archbishop Ernst II of Wettin converted it into a château.
The castle chapel, built in 1480 with brick walls, represents the religious significance of the structure during the administration of Magdeburg archbishops.
The former horse stable now functions as the town library, while the cow barn serves as an event center for various gatherings and celebrations.
The granary, constructed from quarry stones in 1846, contains a regional museum that documents the history and development of the Wolmirstedt area.
