Schlossgut Schnarchenreuth, Architectural heritage monument and archaeological site in Berg, Germany
Schlossgut Schnarchenreuth is a protected heritage estate with multiple structures built around 1745, some incorporating older stone materials. The main house rises three stories with a hipped roof and stands surrounded by agricultural buildings.
The estate grew from a medieval castle mound and passed through several noble families including Sparnberg, Wildenstein, Reitzenstein, and Dobeneck between the 1300s and 1600s. These ownership changes show how the property remained important to the region's power structure.
The estate was a seat of local nobility with administrative authority in the region until this role ended in 1790. The name Schnergereuth reflects the place's former importance in the area's noble families' lives.
The estate sits at 1,950 feet (595 meters) above sea level and can be reached via State Road 2198 toward Saaletal and County Road HO 8 from Gottsmannsgrün. Access is primarily by foot or private vehicle since this is a private property.
Artist Norbert Diehl purchased the deteriorating property in 2004 with plans to create a cultural center for the Hof district. This project demonstrates how historic sites can find new purpose in modern times.
