Schattenberg, Alpine summit in Allgäu, Germany

Schattenberg is a mountain reaching about 1,845 meters that sits between the Allgäu region and the higher Alps. The area is shaped by modern sports facilities, particularly the arena for ski jumping, while the steep slopes display forested areas and open pastures.

The first ski jump facility was built in 1925 on the northwestern slopes, marking the start of winter sports development in this region. Since that foundation, the place has grown into an international center for competitive sports.

The place is closely tied to winter sports and draws athletes from around the world. People come here to train and to watch competitions that fill the valley each year.

You reach the place most easily by car or bus through Oberstdorf, where hiking paths to the summit begin. The best time to visit is from May to October, when mountain paths are accessible and weather is more stable.

Despite its well-known role in winter sports, the area becomes a quiet place for hiking and nature watching in summer. The ski jump then becomes a backdrop for cultural events and festivals rather than athletic competitions.
