Château de Reichstädt

Château de Reichstädt is a baroque building with four symmetrical wings surrounding a central courtyard and preserving a distinctive tower from its earlier Renaissance period. The complex displays different building phases through varying architectural styles.

The castle originated in 1535 as a Renaissance structure and underwent complete baroque reconstruction between 1765 and 1776 under Adam Rudolph von Schönberg. This transformation defined its current appearance.

The interior rooms display Rococo decorations that shaped how Saxon nobility lived in the 18th century. These ornate details give the spaces their distinctive character.

Parts of the castle can be visited through guided tours while restoration work continues in other sections. It helps to check ahead about which areas are currently accessible.

During World War II the castle served as a storage facility for art collections and suffered damage from Soviet troops in 1945. Traces of this wartime history remain visible in certain areas.
