Stadtpark, Public park in Görlitz, Germany
Stadtpark is a public green space in Görlitz that stretches from Lindenweg to Am Stadtpark street, with the Lusatian Neisse River marking its eastern edge and Doctor-Kahlbaum-Allee defining the western boundary. The park features open lawns, scattered tree groves, and walking paths throughout its grounds.
The park was established in 1830 on former pasture land, and later shaped by garden designer Peter Joseph Lenné during his 1855 visit to Görlitz. These early design decisions formed the basis for the park's present layout and character.
The grounds host the ViaThea street theater festival each year, with performers using the open space for their shows. This event transforms the park into a gathering place where different kinds of performances take place.
The park is easily accessible by bus line A from the railway station, with public parking available at Schützenweg and Uferstrasse nearby. Visitors have plenty of space to walk and spend time in the open air.
A one-ton globe monument from 1961 marks the path of the 15th meridian, though later measurements revealed its position was incorrectly calculated. This quirky landmark is a reminder of how even well-intentioned public works can contain hidden mistakes.
