St.-Marien-Kirche, Gothic Revival church in Bochum-Mitte, Germany.
St. Mary's Church is a Gothic Revival building located on Humboldtstrasse at the western edge of Bochum's central district. A prominent tower rises approximately 70 meters and defines the building's visual character.
The building was designed and constructed between 1868 and 1872 by architect Gerhard August Fischer. Following severe bomb damage in 1943, comprehensive reconstruction took place in 1953.
The building bears the name of Saint Mary and displays interior artworks including stained glass windows by Heinrich Wilhelm and wall mosaics depicting religious themes. These artistic elements provide a sense of the decorative traditions that characterized religious structures from the 1800s.
The building now functions as the entrance foyer of the Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr, connecting to concert halls and smaller performance spaces. Visitors can access the space when attending events at the music center.
From 2010 to 2012, members of the street art group Urbanatix used the vacant building as a training facility for their performances. This creative interim use left marks on the city's urban cultural life.
