Tierpark Arche Warder, Livestock conservation center in Rendsburg-Eckernförde, Germany.
Tierpark Arche Warder is a livestock conservation center in Schleswig-Holstein spread across open grounds with natural enclosures and meadows. The site displays various rare domestic breeds alongside recreated ancient structures from a Neolithic settlement on the property.
The facility was created to rescue endangered livestock breeds and later faced financial difficulties before Greenpeace took it over and renovated it in 2004. Under new management, the location reopened as a center for animal conservation and education.
The park honors the skills and knowledge of farmers from past generations who developed and maintained these rare breeds. Visitors can observe how these animals live in natural settings and understand the role they played in rural life.
The park is located near Kiel and Hamburg with plenty of space to explore, allowing for a leisurely pace during a visit. Those coming with children should wear comfortable shoes since much time is spent walking and there is limited shade.
A visitor center on the grounds features exhibits about how humans and animals have lived together over thousands of years. This collection shows how close the relationship was between farmers and their animals and how this connection shaped agricultural development.
