Obersee

Obersee is an artificial reservoir located near Bielefeld that covers a substantial water surface in the landscape. A walking path goes all the way around the water, passing playgrounds, sports courts, and disc golf areas along the way.

The reservoir was built in the late 1970s and early 1980s to prevent flooding in the surrounding area. Its completion solved long-standing water management problems that had threatened nearby communities along local waterways.

The reservoir serves as a gathering place where local residents spend their free time enjoying nature and outdoor activities. You can see families walking together, people relaxing by the water, and groups enjoying the open spaces throughout the day.

The site is easy to explore and offers plenty of space for walking and spending time outdoors. It works well to visit on foot or by bicycle, with well-maintained paths throughout the area.

Two small islands within the water serve as nesting and resting grounds for water birds. These islands make the site an especially good place to observe swans, grebes, ducks, and other birds that need shallow water and shelter.
