Obersee, Artificial reservoir in Schildesche district, Bielefeld, Germany
The Obersee spans 20 hectares of water surface, making it the largest water body in Bielefeld with a length of 950 meters.
The construction of Obersee between 1977 and 1982 resolved frequent flooding issues from Johannisbach and Jölle rivers in the Johannisbach valley.
The reservoir forms part of a 310-hectare recreation area where residents gather for walks, playground activities, and nature observation.
A 3.5-kilometer walking path encircles the reservoir, connecting various facilities including playgrounds, beach volleyball courts, and disc golf courses.
Two islands within the reservoir provide protected nesting and resting spaces for water birds, including swans, grebes, ducks, and geese.
