Sachsenbrücke

The Sachsenbrücke is a road bridge spanning the Elbe River in Pirna and carries major traffic flows across the region. It links several roads together and enables smooth traffic connections between the city and surrounding areas.

The bridge was built between 1997 and 1999 as a replacement for an older crossing in the city center and was designed by a leading engineering firm. The new construction helped the city manage growing traffic better and establish new connections.

The bridge received special recognition during the 2006 Sächsischer Staatspreis für Baukultur awards for its architectural design and integration with the surroundings.

Visitors wishing to cross or get near the bridge can find various access points from the adjoining streets. The best time to explore is outside rush hours, when traffic is lighter.

The bridge was constructed with 50-meter-long concrete arches at the pylons, which span distances and shape the design. This construction method is a remarkable technical solution that visitors often overlook.
