St. Cyprian, Catholic church in Südstadt, Bonn, Germany.
St. Cyprian is a reinforced concrete church in Bonn's Südstadt with a brick exterior and large colored glass windows framed by concrete bars. A prominent tower rises above Adenauerallee, making the building visible from various points in the neighborhood.
The original Friedenskirche, designed by Julius Rolffs in 1934, occupied this location until a bombing raid destroyed it in 1944. The current building rose afterward as a reconstruction to serve the expanding parish.
The bronze door displays symbols of the four cardinal virtues on one side and the three theological virtues on the other, created by sculptor Viktor Eichler. These images speak to the moral ideals that guide the community gathered here.
Two entrances serve the church: one on Adenauerallee 61 and another on Schaumburg-Lippe-Straße, offering flexibility for visitors arriving from different directions. Community rooms in the basement provide space for gatherings and events.
Five bells hang in the tower from different periods, with the smallest one preserved from the original 1934 church. This blend of old and new in the bell tower reflects the dramatic past of this location.
