Bruno-Asch-Anlage, Expressionist urban park near Frankfurt-Höchst railway station, Germany
Bruno-Asch-Anlage is an expressionist urban park near Frankfurt-Hochst railway station, stretching across two rectangular lawns interrupted by sunken areas and perennial flower beds. The center holds a hexagonal fountain with cascading water basins and stone sculpture, surrounded by planted borders.
The park was planned and established in 1926 to give this area of Frankfurt a new character. During World War II, its grounds were transformed into grain fields to support the region's food supply.
The name honors Bruno Asch, a pioneer of Frankfurt's urban development. Visitors today encounter a space that combines water features and planted areas, inviting them to pause and observe.
The park is easily reached on foot from Frankfurt-Hochst railway station and suits a brief visit between trains. The best time to linger is during warmer months, when flowers bloom and the fountain operates with water flowing.
The fountain was designed by sculptor Paul Seiler in the 1920s and features four cascading water basins topped with a stone artichoke sculpture. This uncommon choice of decoration makes the fountain an unusual artwork within the park's design.
