St. Markus, Parish church in Spandau, Germany
St. Markus Church features a central quadratic space covered by a dome supported by 24 concrete beams and a glass front with a covered pergola.
The church construction began with a groundbreaking ceremony on Easter Sunday 1975, and Cardinal Alfred Bengsch consecrated the building on May 8, 1977.
The semicircular seating arrangement around the altar, under a conical dome with overhead lighting, creates a gathering space for religious ceremonies.
St. Markus Church contains a bronze bell weighing 200 kilograms cast in 1975 and an organ built by Freiburger Orgelbau August Späth in 1984.
The bell tower consists of prefabricated concrete elements and displays a large Greek cross, representing modern religious architecture in post-war Germany.
