From 1813 to 1814, the summit served as a strategic point for an optical telegraph station along the Metz-Mainz communication line to Paris. This station was part of a larger network for transmitting messages across vast distances.
The name comes from local dialect and refers to the mountain's shape. From the top, visitors can see the vineyards that have shaped the surrounding landscape for generations.
A shelter built in 2003 provides a resting place for hikers. You can reach the summit by following trails from the L415 road.
On clear days, you can see over 40 villages and several mountain ranges including Taunus, Binger Forest, and Hunsrück from the top. This wide view makes it a favorite spot for people who enjoy observing the landscape.
