Shackspace, Hackerspace in Stuttgart, Germany
Shackspace is a makerspace in Stuttgart where people build electronics, write code, and work on technical projects together. The rooms include specialized workshops, work areas with diverse machines, and communal spaces for members to gather.
Shackspace emerged in 2010 from conversations at BarCamp Stuttgart the year before and quickly became an established maker community. Starting with a small founding group, it soon outgrew its first location and moved to larger premises.
The name reflects an informal culture where technology and craft come together in a relaxed setting. Visitors encounter a community where people openly share ideas and collaborate on hands-on projects.
The space welcomes visitors on most evenings without requiring advance notice or arrangements beforehand. You can expect to find various tools and machines available, such as 3D printers and laser cutters, ready for hands-on work.
Members developed their own microcontroller board called Shackuino, showing how the community designs and builds its own tools. This project reflects the philosophy here of creating technology rather than simply using it.
