Kunstsammlungen der Städtischen Museen Zwickau, Art museum in Zwickau, Germany.
The Kunstsammlungen der Städtischen Museen Zwickau houses extensive collections spanning from late Gothic sculptures to contemporary art in a neo-baroque building designed by architect Richard Schiffner.
Founded in 1925, the museum was led by influential art historian Hildebrand Gurlitt until 1930, who developed its contemporary art focus and organized exhibitions featuring works by Max Pechstein and other Expressionist artists.
The museum maintains the world's largest institutional collection of Max Pechstein's works with approximately 50 pieces, alongside significant late Gothic sculptures by Peter Breuer and other Saxon masters.
Currently closed for renovations until at least 2028, the museum operates temporarily from the Kunstverein building at Domhof 2, maintaining exhibitions Tuesday through Sunday with varying hours.
The museum features interior elements designed and painted by the Bauhaus Dessau school under Gurlitt's direction, creating a distinctive modernist aesthetic within the historic building structure.
