Gibacht

Gibacht is a mountain summit in the Bavarian Forest rising to about 923 meters, situated above the Further Valley. From the peak, views extend across the valley and toward the Czech border region on clear days.

Local mountaineers marked the first hiking paths here in the early 20th century and installed a wooden summit cross. These efforts helped establish the mountain as a popular hiking destination in the region.

The Lighthouse of Humanity monument reflects how hikers from both German and Czech communities share this mountain and its trails. The shared use of these paths has shaped how neighboring regions connect across the border.

A marked circular hiking trail of about 9 kilometers starts from the mountain inn at the base. The path passes by notable rock formations and is easy to follow, making navigation straightforward for most hikers.

During winter months, the area transforms into a ski resort with prepared slopes and a modern lift system. This seasonal shift turns the summit from a hiking destination into a completely different mountain experience.
