Eckernförde lighthouse

Eckernförde lighthouse, Navigation lighthouse in Eckernförde Bay, Germany.

Eckernförde lighthouse is a white concrete structure standing about 27 meters tall on the bay's shore. The light switches between white, red, and green signals aimed in different directions to guide ships safely through the waters.

The original lighthouse was built in 1907 and served shipping traffic for decades. This modern replacement was constructed in 1981 in the same location to support navigation with updated technology.

The lighthouse represents an essential component of Schleswig-Holstein's maritime infrastructure and serves as a recognized architectural heritage monument in the region.

The lighthouse stands right on the bay and is visible from the shore, especially during walks along the coast. Visitors can explore the waterfront area on foot to see the structure from different angles and vantage points.

The structure is made from fiberglass rather than traditional stone or brick, which was an unusual material choice for its time. This construction made it lighter and required less maintenance compared to older predecessors.
