Platzprojekt Hannover, Container village for urban development in Linden district, Hanover, Germany.
Platzprojekt occupies roughly 30 by 100 meters of a former parking lot and uses about 20 repurposed shipping containers for different activities and businesses. The site combines workshops, small shops, and gathering spaces that bring activity to the neighborhood.
This site began in 2013 as a government-funded research project exploring experimental urban development methods in unused city areas. The idea grew from a skateboard park initiative started by young people seeking more spaces for their activities.
The containers house creative workshops including a sewing studio, woodworking shop, and spaces for musicians and artists who share their skills with visitors. These studios welcome people interested in trying crafts and learning directly from makers.
The site is openly accessible and invites visitors to explore the different containers and their offerings. Keep in mind that individual workshops have varying opening times and some are only active at certain periods.
The space emerged from young residents who first built their own skatepark and later developed this larger initiative to create more places for community use. This shows how local needs can drive changes in how a city uses its land.
