Schulungszentrum Großer Ziegenberg

The Schulungszentrum Großer Ziegenberg is a school building complex in Ballenstedt featuring a distinctive 36-meter-high bell tower that serves as a visible landmark throughout the city. The compound spreads across a large area with multiple structures arranged around a lengthy ceremonial plaza that forms the center of the layout.

The complex was built in 1934 and initially functioned as a Nazi Party training school for educational purposes. After the war, the facility was adapted and continued operating as a training institution under East German administration.

The site served historically as a gathering place for organized training and meetings drawing participants from the surrounding area. Today, local groups use the spaces for exhibitions, workshops, and cultural activities that bring the community together.

The site can be accessed through an entrance along Wallstraße that leads through the historic city wall fortification. The main buildings are easily reached, and there is ample space to walk around and explore the various structures and grounds throughout the compound.

The compound could accommodate several hundred participants at the same time during its years of operation and maintained its training function across two completely different political systems. This continuity reveals how the physical structure adapted to serve vastly different purposes across decades.
