Künstlerhaus Gasteiger

The Künstlerhaus Gasteiger is a villa in Utting featuring neoclassical elements and crafted details like wooden beams and wall paneling throughout its rooms. Sculptures and paintings displayed inside document the artistic output of its former residents.

The villa was built starting in 1908 as a residence and studio for sculptor Gasteiger and his painter wife. Decades later it became a public museum, preserving their artistic legacy for visitors.

The house was home to sculptor Mathias Gasteiger and his wife Anna Sophie, whose artistic work filled these rooms. You can sense today how their daily life and creative output were deeply intertwined throughout the building.

The house is best visited on weekends when it is regularly open, allowing you to explore the exhibition without crowds. The place is small and easy to navigate, so plan for about one to two hours for your visit.

A ground-floor room called the Bauernstube functions as a small chapel for civil wedding ceremonies, creating an intimate setting for the couples. This unexpected use shows how the historic house remains actively woven into community life today.
