Johannes der Täufer, Catholic church in Hofgiebing, Obertaufkirchen, Germany
Johannes der Täufer is a church building in Hofgiebing that blends Romanesque and baroque architectural styles. It features a polygonal choir and a western bell tower, with walls and roof showing evidence of different construction periods.
The building was constructed in the 15th century when the Giebinger family had it built. Archaeological findings suggest a Romanesque church stood on this site as early as 1285.
The interior contains ceiling frescoes by Hans Singer from 1768 and Gothic oak doors with decorative lily-shaped iron fittings at the entrance.
The church is located in Hofgiebing, a part of Obertaufkirchen in Upper Bavaria. It is accessible by foot and the interior can usually be viewed, though it is best to check local opening times beforehand.
During 1932 renovations, workers discovered hidden ceiling frescoes by artist Hans Singer from 1768. These had been covered under layers of paint since 1902 and were successfully restored.
