Schloss Kürn, building in Bernhardswald, Upper Palatinate, Germany
Schloss Kürn is a classical castle complex in Bernhardswald featuring four wings, nine window axes, and a central risalit that rises across two stories. The building is surrounded by forest trees and sits on gently elevated terrain with natural stone formations.
The original complex dates from 1197 when the Edle von Kürn established it, but a fire in 1825 destroyed the medieval fortress entirely. The current structure was rebuilt afterward and reflects early 19th-century architectural styles.
The castle displays characteristics of early 19th-century Bavarian architecture, with a symmetrical facade that reflects the tastes of its time. Visitors can see how the classical design shapes the landscape and defines the character of the place.
The castle is privately owned and visitors should respect property boundaries and obtain permission before approaching the grounds. Access is possible from outside, but should be limited to public pathways.
The southwestern slope of the grounds contains natural stone formations and old beech trees that were part of the original castle system. These landscape elements are remnants of the medieval moat that have survived to this day.
