Büchelberg, Nature reserve in Neuhausen, Germany.
Büchelberg is a protected area covering 49.1 hectares with slopes and hilltops ranging from 500 to 544 meters in elevation. Designated pathways provide access to the terrain, located roughly 500 meters northwest of the Münklingen district.
The area received protected status on March 29, 1939, designated by the Baden Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs with identification number 2.019. This designation has preserved the characteristic habitats of the hillside landscape ever since.
The landscape shows traces of traditional sheep grazing that once shaped the plant life on shallow chalky soils.
Wear sturdy footwear for the sloped terrain and uneven ground throughout the pathways. Spring and summer are ideal seasons when wildflowers are in full bloom.
The reserve is home to rare butterfly species such as swallowtail and brown hairstreak, along with specialized plants like narrow-leaved flax and German gentian. These species depend on the open hillside areas maintained by traditional land use.
