Wasserturm Hellerau, Water tower and heritage monument in Hellerau, Germany
Wasserturm Hellerau is a reinforced concrete structure with diagonal bracing supporting a central concrete shaft. A steel cylindrical tank holding approximately 300 cubic meters sits atop for the district's water supply.
The structure was built in 1928 following designs by Dresden architect Hans Richter and constructed by the local firm Renschka & Palitzsch. It served Hellerau's water supply until the 1950s, when its function changed.
The tower displays early industrial design with diagonal bracing and a cubic tank section on top. This style was typical for functional buildings of that era, combining purpose with straightforward aesthetics.
The tower is visible from outside but not accessible for entry, as it now supports antenna systems. You can view its structure and details best from the surrounding streets.
Two diagonal supports intersecting within the shaft contain both the staircase and water pipes, showing efficient design. This dual-purpose structure demonstrates how much the engineer optimized the available space.
