University of Copenhagen Botanical Garden, Botanical garden in central Copenhagen, Denmark

The University of Copenhagen Botanical Garden is a large green space in the city center filled with thousands of plant species from around the world. The grounds feature several climate-controlled greenhouses and a distinctive tall Palm House that stands out among the surrounding buildings.

This garden was created in the early 1600s and initially occupied a different location in the city. In the 1800s it was relocated to where it stands today after the previous site was needed for other purposes.

The garden serves the University of Copenhagen as a living classroom and research workspace. You can observe how scientists work with plants and notice the care taken to preserve specimens that might otherwise disappear.

The garden is easy to reach in the city center and features clear pathways for walking through the grounds. The outdoor areas are freely accessible, though some sections like the greenhouses may have restrictions or require entry fees at certain times.

A butterfly house allows visitors to watch tropical butterflies at different stages of their development from pupa to adult. This seasonal feature reveals the complete transformation that these insects go through during their lives.
