Brorfelde Observatory, Astronomical observatory in Holbæk Municipality, Denmark.
Brorfelde Observatory comprises four scientific buildings and five staff residences integrated into the hillside landscape at 60 meters (197 feet) above sea level. The structures are arranged to respect the natural setting while providing suitable conditions for research work.
The observatory was established in 1953 following a major donation from Carlsbergfondet in 1947. It replaced the facility previously operated by Copenhagen University in the Botanical Garden.
The site functions as an educational center where visitors engage with astronomy, geology, technology, and nature through hands-on learning experiences. It serves as a place where people discover scientific knowledge in direct, tangible ways.
The buildings are located along Observator Gyldenkernes Vej and open only during specific events or by prior arrangement. The surrounding areas remain freely accessible for exploration.
Each staff residence is surrounded by a circular earthen mound approximately 40 meters (131 feet) in diameter, bordered by hawthorn hedges. This arrangement reduces light pollution while creating a secluded living environment for the staff.
