Freeport of Copenhagen, Port terminal in North Harbor, Denmark
The Freeport of Copenhagen is a port complex in the Nordhavn area of Copenhagen, Denmark, with three cruise terminals named Langelinie, Nordre Toldbod, and Ocean Quay. Each terminal handles different vessel sizes and has its own docking berths and passenger facilities.
The port developed from Copenhagen's long tradition of maritime trade and was expanded several times over the centuries. The Ocean Quay Terminal opened in 2014 to accommodate newer, larger cruise ships that the older berths could no longer receive.
The port sits in Nordhavn, a former industrial district that has been gradually turning into a residential neighborhood over recent decades. Walking along the waterfront, you can see cruise ships docked just a short distance from new apartment buildings and cycling paths.
The Langelinie terminal is the closest to the city center and can be reached on foot or by bus, while Ocean Quay in Nordhavn is best served by the M4 metro line from Orientkaj station. If you plan to visit more than one terminal, keep in mind that the distances between them are not short.
The Langelinie terminal is positioned so close to the city center that arriving passengers can walk to the Little Mermaid statue in just a few minutes. It is one of the few cruise terminals in the world located directly next to a monument of that kind.
