Tørskind Gravel Pit, Sculpture park in former gravel pit, Vejle, Denmark
Tørskind Gravel Pit is a sculpture park in a former industrial site near Vejle, where artworks in steel, granite, and wood define the excavated landscape. Two artists created monumental works over time, placing them among the natural slopes and grounds of the site.
The area was already inhabited during the Stone Age and Viking times, as shown by archaeological finds. The gravel pit itself developed later from extraction of materials for construction, eventually transforming into an art park.
The place shows how artists and visitors share an old industrial site and experience it together through art. The sculptures invite people to see the landscape in a new way and spend time exploring the grounds.
The site is open during day and night hours and can be accessed freely, allowing visitors to come at any time. Parking facilities are within walking distance of the entrance, making the grounds easy to reach.
From the upper edges of the pit, visitors can observe an important valley section that reveals how the river originally meandered through the landscape. This perspective shows how water and erosion shaped the region's topography over thousands of years.
