Compenius organ, Renaissance wooden organ in Frederiksborg Palace, Denmark.
The Compenius organ contains 1001 wooden pipes covered in ivory and ebony, with nine stops in each division of the instrument.
Built in 1610 by Esaias Compenius for Duke Heinrich Julius, the organ moved to Frederiksborg Palace in 1617 under King Christian IV's ownership.
The organ produces sounds that replicate a Renaissance orchestra through its wooden pipes and specialized mechanisms designed by master craftsmen.
Visitors can attend free Thursday concerts at the palace chapel to hear performances on this historical instrument with a valid museum entrance ticket.
Each component of the organ requires a different key for access, and only one set of these keys exists in the world.
