Bryggebroen

Bryggebroen, Pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Islands Brygge, Denmark

Bryggebroen is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge that spans Copenhagen's inner harbor, connecting two neighborhoods on opposite sides of the water. The steel structure was designed to accommodate foot and bicycle traffic while allowing harbor vessels to pass underneath with adequate clearance.

Built in the 2000s, the bridge was the first of its kind to be constructed over Copenhagen harbor in over 50 years. This construction marked a turning point in the city's infrastructure development, creating a new route between distant neighborhoods.

The bridge's name reflects a connection to the harbor quays and was chosen through public participation by Copenhagen residents. This everyday landmark has become a meeting point where locals pass through on their daily routines.

The bridge is wide enough for both pedestrians and cyclists to move comfortably in either direction without crowding. Watch your footing if the surface is wet, as it can become slippery in rainy weather.

Many couples attach small locks to the railings as symbols of their relationships, a tradition that has grown over time. This personal gesture has turned the bridge into an unplanned gallery of romantic expressions.
