Jarmers Tower, Medieval tower ruins in Jarmers Plads, Copenhagen, Denmark
The circular red brick tower structure features a reticular pattern design with dark burned bricks and stands near the intersection of major boulevards.
Built around 1500, the tower formed part of Copenhagen's defensive wall system with eleven towers protecting the medieval city against external threats.
The tower received its name from Prince Jaromar II of Rügen, who led Wendish forces through Copenhagen's wooden defenses in 1259.
The ruins remain accessible throughout the year at the junction where Nørre Voldgade meets H.C. Andersens Boulevard in central Copenhagen.
Archaeological excavations between 1880 and 1885 uncovered the tower's remains, leading to its preservation as the last standing medieval fortification tower.
