Dagmar Theatre

Dagmar Theatre, Theatre in Copenhagen, Denmark

Dagmar Theatre is a cinema in central Copenhagen housing five screening rooms distributed across two levels. The venue provides 787 seats total and includes a café in the foyer for visitors.

The original theatre was founded in 1883 but was destroyed by fire in 1937. The current building was constructed after the fire and opened in 1939.

The foyer displays two relief panels by artist Olaf Staehr Nielsen featuring female nudes on either side of the proscenium opening, reflecting the aesthetic values of that era. These decorative elements shape the visual character of the entry space and give the venue an artistic dimension.

The theatre sits at Jernbanegarde 2 in central Copenhagen and is easily accessible by public transport. The screening rooms are split across two levels, so visitors may need to use stairs depending on which theatre they visit.

During World War II, German forces took over the building and operated it as Weltmacht Kino, requiring significant alterations to the space. The theatre underwent major restoration work after 1945 to return to cinema operations.
