Vedbygård, Medieval manor house in Ruds Vedby, Denmark

Vedbygård is a three-winged manor house standing on a fortified hill and completely encircled by water-filled moats. It sits next to the village church of Ruds Vedby and combines medieval foundations with later additions that shaped its current form.

Queen Margaret I of Denmark owned the estate in the early 1300s, and it returned to the Crown in 1369 through a property exchange. Successive ownership changes influenced how the complex was built and rebuilt over the following centuries.

The southern wing preserves painted wooden ceilings and wall decorations from the 1500s, which together with a collection of Danish Golden Age paintings show how wealthy families lived and decorated their homes.

The grounds are open to visitors throughout the year for exploring the exterior and landscape. To see inside the main building, arrange a guided tour in advance with the property management.

The southern wing preserves original medieval features like pointed arched windows and defensive loopholes, revealing that the building once served protective purposes. These details show how manor houses were designed as fortified structures for security and control.
