Asserbohus, Former hotel structure in Asserbo, Denmark
Asserbohus is a former building in Asserbo, Denmark, built with columns salvaged from an old sailing ship and other recycled materials. The structure stands near the northern beach with multiple floors designed to accommodate different uses over its lifetime.
An antique dealer named Henry Skaanström built the structure in 1933 as a luxury hotel near the northern beach. Over the following decades, it transformed multiple times, serving different purposes before eventually falling into disuse.
The building served as an educational institution from 1957 to 2004, first as a boarding school and later under Tvind organization's management.
The building sits in a coastal area and can be viewed from outside, though it is not open to the public. The location near Asserbo allows visitors to see the historic structure from different angles along the beach approach.
The building was created through creative reuse of materials, including columns from an actual sailing ship, making it an early example of sustainable architecture. This collection of salvaged parts shows the builder's distinctive approach and interest in transforming old materials into new structures.
