Hammer Odde Lighthouse, Maritime navigational structure at Hammeren peninsula, Bornholm island, Denmark.
Hammer Odde Lighthouse is a low, white brick tower with a red-roofed lantern room situated on the Hammeren peninsula. The compact structure was deliberately built low to achieve optimal visibility across the sea without interference from elevated structures nearby.
The beacon was built in 1895 to support the existing Hammeren Lighthouse when fog made the higher tower difficult to spot. In the 1930s, radio equipment was added to transform it into a maritime communication center.
The lighthouse represents Danish maritime engineering excellence through its rotating lens system that emits two short light signals every 10 seconds.
The tower sits on an easily accessible headland with open views across the water. Visitors should know the location is windswept, and sturdy footwear is recommended for safely exploring the grounds.
The deliberately low construction sets this beacon apart from most other lighthouses, making it an unusual maritime structure. This design choice was crucial for operating reliably under harsh Baltic conditions.
