Nordsjællands Veterantog, Heritage railway experience in North Zealand, Denmark
Nordsjællands Veterantog is a heritage railway featuring historical steam and diesel locomotives alongside vintage passenger carriages that operate on several routes across North Zealand. The collection spans different periods of Danish railway history and runs throughout the year.
What started as a model railway club in Helsingør in 1958 evolved into a full-scale heritage railway operation by 1968. Since then the organization has been preserving historical trains and their place in Danish transport history.
The trains embody how people once traveled in Denmark and shaped the country's connection to rail transport. Visitors can sit in the vintage carriages today and experience what traveling by train felt like generations ago.
Trains operate mainly on weekends and Wednesdays during warmer months, so planning ahead helps secure a spot. The railway also welcomes groups for private events like weddings or corporate gatherings.
One standout piece is the steam locomotive DSB K-582 from 1900, which sits at the Rungsted depot and represents over a century of railway engineering. The organization is also restoring the DSB S-740 locomotive, which appeared in the James Bond film Octopussy.
