Børglum Hall, Student dormitory in Vejlby, Aarhus, Denmark.
Børglum Hall is a student dormitory in Aarhus comprising seven four-story buildings made of yellow brick, connected by covered walkways. These passages lead to a central shared garden that serves as the heart of the complex.
The dormitory was designed by architect Harald Salling-Mortensen in 1967 and took inspiration from Finnish architect Alvar Aalto's principles. Additional residential blocks were built in the 1990s to expand capacity for students.
The shared communal center serves as the social hub where residents gather for activities and meetings. This space reinforces the sense of community among students living in the complex.
The complex accommodates around 489 students in individual rooms distributed across all buildings, with shared kitchen facilities on each floor. Covered walkways make moving through the site easy regardless of weather conditions.
The buildings feature a fan-shaped layout inspired by Alvar Aalto with curved hallways that create varying natural light in each room. This design approach combines function with visual interest throughout the complex.
