Den Permanente, Public beach with wooden bathing facilities in Aarhus, Denmark
Den Permanente is a public beach in Aarhus with wooden bathing facilities built along the shoreline. The site includes piers extending into the water, changing rooms, shower facilities, and a lifeguard station positioned throughout the sandy area.
The facility originated in 1933 when Aarhus Harbor provided funding to build permanent structures. Prior to this, the beach only had temporary seasonal structures that required reconstruction each year.
The beach serves as a gathering place for local sports groups who play volleyball, practice kayaking, and gather for swimming activities throughout the year. These regular activities shape how the place feels and who you encounter there.
The beach is accessible daily from June through August, with lifeguards on duty during this period. One section remains open year-round for swimming, while another area is available only during specific seasons.
The site is one of few Danish beaches with a dedicated section for winter swimmers operating from September through May. This winter section reflects a strong Danish tradition of year-round swimming in cold water.
