Aarhus Municipality, Administrative division in Central Denmark Region, Denmark
Aarhus is a municipality located on the eastern coast of the Jutland peninsula in Denmark. It comprises both urban neighborhoods and surrounding rural areas that form a single administrative region.
The current structure formed in 1970 when several smaller administrative areas merged into a single larger entity. During the nationwide administrative reform in 2007, it maintained its independence because of its substantial size.
The Aarhus City Council consists of 31 elected members who operate under a distinctive magistrate system that sets it apart from other Danish municipal governments.
The area is accessible by various forms of transportation and well served by roads and public transit connections. Within the municipality, visitors will find different zones with distinct characters, ranging from urban centers to green outer areas.
Despite the nationwide Municipal Reform of 2007 that merged numerous Danish municipalities, Aarhus Municipality remained independent due to its substantial size and population.
