Carlsberg-siloen, Former malt silo in Vesterbro district, Copenhagen, Denmark
Carlsberg-siloen is a former malt storage building in Vesterbro that now serves as a residential structure with a striking presence in the Copenhagen skyline. The building contains multiple floors of apartments with varying sizes arranged throughout its vertical height.
The building was constructed between 1956 and 1957 as a storage facility for the Kongens Bryghus brewery and served for decades storing malt for beer production. Following a brewery merger, the structure lost its original purpose and was eventually converted into residential apartments.
The repurposed building demonstrates how Copenhagen residents live in converted industrial spaces, making the Vesterbro district a place where old factory buildings become everyday homes.
The building can be accessed through multiple entrances at street level that lead to different residential sections. The layout makes it easy to walk around and observe the architecture from various angles in the surrounding area.
The top three levels of the building feature single apartments with expansive views over the city rather than paired units. These higher floors offer residents a different living experience compared to the more densely arranged lower floors.
