Cirkusrevyen is a theater and musical show that runs every summer in a large tent at Dyrehavsbakken. The program combines performed sketches with singing and musical performances throughout the warm season.
The show began in 1935 through the collaboration of restaurateur Carl Pehrsson, actors Osvald Helmuth and Oscar Holst, and musician Herman Gellin. It has remained a yearly tradition at this location ever since.
The performances tackle current Danish social topics and political satire through comedic sketches and songs that reflect what people see around them. Audiences recognize references to familiar figures and everyday events in the show.
The performances take place outdoors under a tent, so weather-appropriate clothing is advisable. Visitors should arrive early to enjoy the outdoor area before the show begins.
Queen Margrethe II visited unexpectedly during a 2021 performance while being parodied in a sketch by the cast. This surprise appearance turned that show into a memorable moment in Danish theater history.
