Bellavista housing estate

Bellavista is a residential complex in Klampenborg with three white wings arranged in a U-shape that contain 68 apartments with integrated balconies and rounded corners. The units face the sea and the grounds include commercial spaces at ground level.

The complex was completed in 1934 by architect Arne Jacobsen, who brought Bauhaus ideas from Germany into Danish residential design. This project became a model for many later housing developments across Scandinavia.

The estate shows how modernist design ideas fit into everyday Danish home life through its white facades and open balconies. Residents and visitors can see how these new architectural principles shaped what people expected from their living spaces.

The complex sits near Copenhagen with direct access to Bellevue Beach and public transportation connections. Keep in mind this is a residential area where residents live, so only public spaces and exterior views are easily accessible.

Each apartment features floor displacements and staggered facades that create changing patterns of light and shadow throughout the day. This subtle design means no two units are quite alike, even though the building reads as a unified whole.
