Jernbanebroen over Limfjorden, Railway bridge in Aalborg Municipality, Denmark
Jernbanebroen over Limfjorden is a railway bridge in Aalborg that crosses the Limfjord in nine sections resting on seven water piers. The steel structure is about 19 feet (5.7 m) wide and carries a single track across the water.
The bridge was first built for a railway line in Frederikssund in the late 1920s and early 1930s, then dismantled and moved to Aalborg. It was reassembled and put into service across the Limfjord in 1938.
The bridge carries a single rail line used by train passengers crossing the fjord every day. Travelers on board get an open view of the water on both sides as the train moves slowly across.
The bridge is easy to see from the shore on either side of the fjord, where paths lead close to the water. Crossing it by train gives a different perspective, with the water visible on both sides throughout the ride.
The bridge is a bascule bridge, meaning one of its spans can lift to let large vessels pass through the fjord. This makes it one of the few railway bridges in Denmark that still opens for ship traffic.
