Jernbanebroen over Limfjorden, Railway bridge in Aalborg Municipality, Denmark
Jernbanebroen over Limfjorden is a railway bridge spanning 414 meters across the fjord with nine sections supported by seven water piers. The steel structure measures about 6 meters wide and carries single-track rail traffic.
The bridge was originally built between 1928 and 1936 for a railway in Frederikssund before being moved to this location. After reassembly, it began operating across the fjord in 1938.
This bridge links communities across Limfjord and remains part of the daily train journey for passengers traveling between regions. Locals see it as an essential piece of their transportation network that brings people together.
You can view this bridge from the shoreline or experience it firsthand by taking the train that crosses it at a steady pace. The best views are from surrounding roads and paths that lead to the water.
This is actually a bascule bridge system that opens when large ships need to pass through the fjord. The design allows it to serve both rail traffic and maritime navigation simultaneously.
