Limfjordsbroen, Road bridge in Aalborg Municipality, Denmark.
The Limfjordsbroen is a road bridge spanning the Limfjord waterway, connecting Aalborg and Nørresundby across a length of 540 meters. It features four traffic lanes and separate paths for pedestrians and cyclists on both sides of the structure.
Construction between 1930 and 1933 replaced an earlier pontoon bridge from 1865 that had served as the first permanent link between the two cities. The new bridge with its movable central section represented a technological advancement for the region.
The bridge serves as a daily connection for people moving between the two city centers and has become a familiar reference point in the local landscape. It remains part of the everyday rhythm of how residents navigate this region.
The bridge includes dedicated paths for cyclists and pedestrians, making it accessible to those traveling on foot or by bicycle. Visitors should allow time for crossing, especially during busy hours when traffic flow is heavy on the main roadway.
Before the bridge opened, engineers tested its movable section by positioning 48 fully loaded trucks on it to verify its structural strength. This extreme load test demonstrated the reliability of the construction under heavy stress.
