The museum building incorporates natural light through parabola-shaped skylights, with marble surfaces and copper sheeting covering the exterior walls.
Finnish architect Alvar Aalto designed the museum in collaboration with Elissa Aalto and Jean-Jacques Baruël, opening its doors in June 1972.
The collection includes 1,500 artworks from 1900 to present day, featuring paintings by J.F. Willumsen and installations by Michelangelo Pistoletto.
The museum provides complete accessibility with wheelchair ramps, bilingual exhibition texts in Danish and English, and guided tours for international visitors.
The sculpture park adjacent to the museum displays permanent outdoor installations by Danish artists Gunnar Aagaard Andersen and Willy Ørskov.
