House of Music, Concert hall in Aalborg, Denmark
The House of Music is a performance venue in Aalborg featuring four different halls designed for various types of concerts and events. The largest space seats approximately 1,300 people, with three smaller halls accommodating rehearsals, chamber performances, and other musical presentations.
The venue was designed by architectural firm Coop Himmelb(l)au and opened in 2014 as a new cultural space for the city. Its completion marked a turning point for Aalborg's music scene and provided modern infrastructure for artistic activities in the region.
The building houses the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Academy of Music, and the Danish JazzCenter, shaping the region's musical life. Multiple organizations coexist within the same structure, each serving distinct musical traditions and audiences.
The building is centrally located in Aalborg and easy to reach on foot from most parts of the city. The open design allows visitors to observe rehearsals and performances from various viewpoints, enhancing the experience even for those not attending scheduled events.
Large windows and observation openings throughout the building let visitors watch musicians and students during rehearsals and performances. This transparency creates an unusual connection between the creative process and observers, bringing the artistic work visible to those simply passing through.
