Juelsberg

Juelsberg is a classicist manor estate located near Nyborg on the island of Funen, built with a central main structure and two flanking side wings. The property includes a landscaped park with lime tree alleys, a private forest, and interior spaces decorated according to late 18th-century design principles.

The estate started as crown property before transitioning to private ownership in 1669, marking a shift from state to family control. By the 1860s it had grown into one of the largest estates on Funen, becoming a major landholding of its time.

The name Juelsberg reflects the family that shaped this estate over centuries. Visitors can see in the park how the classicist design and neat lime tree alleys show how residents connected their home to the surrounding landscape.

The park opens to visitors during the warmer months from May through October, allowing time to explore the grounds and forest. Good walking shoes are recommended since you will spend most of your visit outdoors exploring the property at your own pace.

Amalie Christiane Raben took control of the estate and oversaw construction after her husband died in 1776, guiding the completion of the main building by 1786. Her leadership demonstrates how women of that era could hold significant responsibility for large properties despite the legal limits of their time.
