Rønninge Søgård, Renaissance manor house in Kerteminde Municipality, Denmark
Rønninge Søgård is a Renaissance manor with two wings and an octagonal tower overlooking Vomme Sø lake. The buildings were constructed in different periods and blend architectural styles from the 1500s with later additions.
The estate first appeared in written records during the 1300s when the Crown held it for a time. Over the following centuries, it changed hands among noble families who modified and expanded the buildings.
The chapel on the grounds was built in the 1800s and served as a family burial place for many years. It overlooks the lake and shows how closely the residents were tied to this location.
The manor sits northwest of Nyborg on Funen island and can be viewed from nearby areas. Access and viewing conditions depend on current ownership arrangements, so it helps to check ahead before visiting.
About 200 meters south of the current buildings sits an older medieval defensive site with a mound and moat. These archaeological remains mark where the original Søgard once stood before the estate was relocated to its present location.
