Skjoldhøjkilen is a nature reserve spanning 3.5 kilometers from Hasle Hills to True Skov, connecting different landscape features throughout its terrain. The area combines meadows, small lakes, woodlands, and flowing streams into a varied natural setting.
The area underwent major reconstruction in 2005 to restore ecological functions and enhance its natural value for wildlife. Key improvements included stream restoration, rainwater reservoir construction, and new forest planting.
The space functions as a learning environment where students interact with nature by scanning codes on concrete posts using their phones to access information. This blend of outdoor exploration and interactive technology creates an engaging way to discover the surroundings.
The area is accessible from several parking areas located at Janesvej, Jernaldervej, Skjoldhøjvej, and Anelystvej. Walking and running routes range from 3 to 10 kilometers depending on which entry point you choose.
The area contains rainwater reservoirs that serve as spawning grounds for brown trout while also supporting European tree frogs in its alder swamps. These particular wetland forests represent a distinctive Danish forest type that hosts uncommon species.
